CHANGE Environmental was retained to analyzed potential air quality impacts via air modeling and analysis of the Philadelphia Electric Company (herein after “PECO”) for their proposed construction and operation of a new natural gas reliability station (PECO facility) at 2090 Sproul Road in Marple Township, Pennsylvania that the Marple Township and hundreds of citizens have been against given concerns on the local air quality it will have. CHANGE found that air quality impacts from the proposed facility would be experienced by communities as far away as 1 mile from the facility. Specifically, within a one-mile radius from the facility, the facility would cause or contribute to measurable impacts from emissions of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), particulate matter (PM2.5), benzene and formaldehyde, among others. The most significant air quality impacts would occur within a half mile of the facility resulting in elevated exposures from this facility.
